I've never had a desire to be an author...until recently. In a world of "left brain" vs "right brain" categorizations, there was always the tendency to be left-brain dominant. This logical and ordered predisposition is evidenced by a chosen career path in computer consulting. And it was a career choice born at an early age and influenced by watching Sci-Fi movies and TV shows over and over, much to the annoyance of my parents. Not surprisingly, more often it was the technology in those stories that I found most compelling, and from the age of 8 years old Electronics trade magazines became a regular delivery in our mailbox.
However, as with other authors there was always the voices whispering...ideas for stories being told through sights and sounds, and in dreams. Then, after ten years of half listening to the voices and starting/stopping/starting the writing process, I finally put pen to paper to complete "A Kingdom in Shards", the first book in the "Shards of Raeth" series.
Fortunately (or unfortunately), the voices haven't stopped nor even slowed down. Book 2, A World in Shards, is available now and Book 3 is in progress. There are also drafts for a completely new series floating around my mess of a desk. Of course, still having a day job the process is slow going, though steady. So much for never wanting to be an author!
While my ideas for stories and the finished work(s) originate from within (those nagging voices), nothing is done in a vacuum. If it hadn't been for the suggestions, recommendations and feedback from family and friends, I dare say "A Kingdom in Shards" would not be published.
Moving forward I would very much like to hear from other readers who've enjoyed the stories I've tried to tell. Though I am the one putting pen to paper, I believe we are all on the journey together. And right now, what the destination will look like when we get there is any person's guess!
